This rock is not as resistant to erosion as the Mn-phosphorite, however, it is still able to withstand the erosive currents of the Gulf Stream and the biological erosion by organisms living on the seafloor. As a result, where foraminiferan limestone is exposed on the seafloor in cliffed areas, it often forms overhanging ledges, providing excellent habitat for fish and other organisms.
