Fossil-rich
biogenic sediments were collected by Project Oceanica on each
of two Islands in the Stream 2001 cruises. Photographs of the
coarse rubble material and sand-size fraction material collected
at the Charleston Bump are shown as an example of the material
that is available to educators. Also, samples of rocks collected
at the same sites will soon be available on loan. These rocks
provide the foundation for the hardground deep reef communities.
Samples will also be available for petrographic studies by students
in geology and oceanography courses and research. The sediment
images are courtesy of Clark Alexander (Skidaway Institute of
Oceanography).
