Apple Murex (Phyllonotus pomum)

SHELL LENGTH: Approximately 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm)

Growing up to 3 1/2 inches, this murex is smaller than the Giant Eastern Murex and doesn't have long spines or strong ribs. They are solid brown or reddish brown and are occasionally striped with four dark, brown spots on the lip of the aperture, which appears pink in many cases. These univalves prefer hard, rocky ledges and wrecks and are rarely found on beaches.
