Giant Tun (Tonna galea)


SHELL LENGTH: Approximately 6 inches (15.24 cm)

Large, globular, and thin-shelled is a perfect description for the Giant Tun. Usually white to brown in color, this shell has 19-21 broad, flattened spiral ridges around the entire shell and the spire is compressed. Being easily broken, this shell is rarely found on beaches whole. They can grow up to 7 1/2 inches.
