Horse Conch (Pleuroploca gigantea)

SHELL LENGTH: Approximately 1-2 feet (30.48 - 60.96)

Reaching up to two feet in length, this is the largest snail in the Northern Hemisphere and the second largest snail in the world! Rarely found on beaches, this state shell of Florida is not a true conch. Covered with a dark periostracum, this univalve is actually light in color. They feed on other mollusks and small individuals can often be found on oyster beds.
