Dune Meadows

.....The Dune Meadows can be found back from the primary dunes, and in the swales, or areas between the dunes. These areas are lower in elevation which puts them closer to groundwater and protects them from the strong winds. This protection has allowed these areas sufficient time to accumulate higher levels of humus. Humus helps the soil retain moisture and is a major source of fertilizer. With the improved soil conditions, we find a variety of competetive dry-field plants, including flowering weeds, grasses, and woody plants.
